How do I get started?
Call the studio at 757.641.9899 to discuss how Joy of Pilates can best meet your needs. After discussing your fitness level and goals, Joy will help you to decide the best way to begin.
What do I wear to sessions?
Please wear close-fitting clothes that are comfortable for you to workout in. You do not need shoes during your session; either bare feet or socks with treads on the bottom.
Women: Spandex shorts, capris or pants, fitted t-shirts and workout tank tops
Men: T-shirts, workout shorts (if you are wearing loose-fitting shorts, it is recommended to wear bicycle shorts or another type of tight-fitting short underneath)
Note: Teachers look for abdominal initiation as well as hand and ankle placement. It is helpful when you wear close-fitting clothing that does not have long sleeves or long pants covering the wrists and ankles.
How many times a week should I schedule a Pilates session?
The keys to success in any exercise program are commitment and consistency. We recommend two to three times a week. It is highly recommended for new clients to initially take private sessions; 5 sessions being the minimum, 10 sessions the ideal. Joy of Pilates offers a 5 Private Session Intro Package for $200 and a 10 Session Intro Package for $400. Please look under ‘Services‘ for more information about the Introductory Packages.
What can I expect during a session at Joy of Pilates?
Sessions are 55 minutes. Pilates is a workout, so be prepared to sweat! Joy of Pilates offers both private and semi-private apparatus sessions. Below are the descriptions for each:
Private Session: One-on-one personalized training utilizing the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Wall Unit (Tower), High Chair, Wunda Chair, Barrels and Magic Circle.
Semi-Private Session: Two clients with one teacher utilizing the same apparatus as in the private session.
