What is Classical Pilates?
Classical Pilates refers to the method of Pilates that most closely resembles what Joseph Pilates himself taught. The leading principle of Classical Pilates is that before working the peripheral parts of the body, the core needs to be strong and stable. Joseph Pilates taught his work as a system, which included all of his apparatus, not just Mat work. Through this systematic-integrative approach, clients follow a system of exercises using various pieces of apparatus such as the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, High Chair, Wunda Chair, Barrels, Magic Circle and Ped-o-Pul where they will be able to find the connection to their core.
In finding this connection, clients will be able to build strength from the inside out, rebalance the body, bring it into correct alignment and rid themselves of chronic weaknesses. A systematic approach to Pilates makes progress easier for the client. Pilates uses precise, controlled, and flowing movements to provide long-term results. Joy has been trained through Power Pilates®, the leader in Classical Pilates instruction.
